Live is the time of your life. It’s when you have to take on other roles and try and sell your book. Think of the Live phase as if it’s a trial period—what if I was a producer, and a marketing person, and a salesperson, and a publicist, and my grandmother?

You have two choices in front of you:

  1. Try and sell your book to a publisher.
  2. Become a self-published author.

Or you can try both. Give yourself two or three years to push your book to publishers. Think big, start with the big three (or five), but don’t forget about your medium and small publishers. Sometimes you can have pleasant surprises there.

If it’s not happening in three years, then self-publish it.

Anyway, no matter what you choose to do, you’ll need to work on your elevator pitch first. That will not only hook publishers, but it can end up on your back cover as a two-liner description with a hook of your story.

Second, you’ll need to write your synopsis. That’s a very important selling tool. In both scenarios.

And for the first scenario, you now need to write your query letter. That will help in seeking both publishers and agents.
