My first ever submission to a screenwriting competition, the Industry Insider Television Writing Contest, has made it into the semi-finals.
The Pilot “Close Conundrum of the Third Kind” of my TV Series “Alien Contact for Dummies” has been selected out of almost 2000 entries into the 50 semi-finalists.
I’ve written “Alien Contact for Dummies” while in school, in the Screenwriting Program at George Brown College, as a half hour sitcom. When the instructor told me it wasn’t funny enough for a sitcom (at least 3 jokes on every page), I let it rest for half a year and re-wrote it as an hour drama, focusing on story and character. Then I test it on Vali. She chuckled all the way through and couldn’t let it out of her hand until the end.
So fingers crossed. I’m now in the third round, on my way to finals.
