So, as ROM members, we usually go to the Museum on Friday nights for the concerts in the C5 lounge. Sometimes, we get there an hour before the music sessions start so we can see the new exhibits.

Yesterday night it was Iris Van Herpen – Transforming Fashion. We did see the poster and it looked interesting. But we did not expect what we saw at all.

We both worked for several women magazines
… and directed a lot of fashion editorials, working with fashion editors that became in time fashion designers. We loved fashion and we loved working in the industry. But then, life happened and we drifted away. We remained in love with the fashion world but didn’t have time to keep up with the latest trends and movements.

Yesterday we went to this exhibit like to any other of its kind—with love and respect, but not expecting surprises. Like the Dior exhibit a month ago. Beautiful, fascinating, saw it twice and it was enough. We left satisfied.

Iris Van Herpen
To my shame, I haven’t heard of her until this exhibit.

What a surprise!!! It is fabulous! It is inspiring! It’s the kind of thing that leaves you full of creative energy and fermenting with ideas. It’s what made me fall in love with fashion initially. It’s what makes you think: “I wish I’d be part of that world!”

We stayed longer than the scheduled one hour
And then we went to the C5 lounge and relaxed, and allowed the Van Herpen exhibit to settle in our minds listening to Avery Raquel. Another surprise and a delicious ending to our Friday Night escapade.
